Lt. Thom Richmond and Firefighter Shaun McNally were injured on October 17, 2002 during a
flashover in a house fire on Portsmouth Ct. The two men were searching the upstairs of the dwelling
when a flashover occurred in the stairwell trapping them upstairs. They tried to get to a bedroom to
escape the fire and heat, but it was too intense. Richmond and McNally jumped from a second floor
bedroom landing on their air packs twenty feet below. Both men were transported to St. Mary Medical
Center with 1st and 2nd degree burns to various parts of their bodies.
Richmond was released on
Thursday from the hospital. Shaun seriously injured his back, but he will make a full recovery!
A firefighter from Newtown was also transported with burns to his hands after
escaping the flashover through the front door of the dwelling, and a firefighter
from Feasterville was transported after complaining of chest pains. The fire started just before 11:30 AM, and it was brought under control
shortly before 12:00. Companies from Northampton, Newtown, Lower Southampton, and
